Traveling by Daylight

Several years ago, I was on a drive to visit my grandmother after my grandfather had passed away. She had downsized to a smaller home and I had only been there once in broad daylight. On this particular trip, I was traveling there at night for the first time. I remember having a moment of panic at one point, fearing that I would miss my turn and get lost. Almost as suddenly as panic had come on, I distinctly remember a sense of calm enveloping me and the thought, “Don’t fear in the night that which you’ve already seen in the day.” I had a crisp and clear vision of the route to Grandma’s based on the image in my mind of the road well-lit by afternoon sun. It is hard to say what was going on in my life at the time that made that awakening so pertinent, but it has stayed with me. During times when life seems darker, I remember that I’ve made my way before; that there’s an intuition I can trust. The light that leads me is stronger and clearer in my mind and heart than whatever darkness I face. Sometimes, we stop cold in the dark, afraid to move forward. But with that image of a clearer path held in focus, I swallow hard and press on until the sun comes up.
